Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “I bought this mini fridge for my mancave as a temporary solution until I upgrade to a larger refrigerator, and it has been working great. It keeps my beer nice and cold and does exactly what I need it to do without taking up much space. The storage layout is very practical. The two glass shelves and door racks make it easy to organize cans and bottles, and the door storage easily holds taller bottles. For a 1.7 cu ft fridge, it fits more than you’d expect. I also like that the leveling legs make it simple to position exactly where I want it.It’s compact enough to fit perfectly in a small area, and the flat-back design helps it sit flush against the wall. The reversible door is a nice bonus in case you need to adjust it for your room layout. Temperature control is easy with the adjustable thermostat, and it cools down quickly.Another big plus is how quiet it is. At around 37 dB, it runs silently in the background, which is ideal for a mancave, office, or bedroom. The automatic defrost means there’s no maintenance to worry about, and the Energy Star efficiency keeps power usage low.Overall, this ROOMWELL mini fridge is reliable, quiet, energy-efficient, and perfect for keeping drinks cold in a small space. I’m very happy with it and would definitely recommend it for anyone needing a compact, no-freezer refrigerator.”
Customer Review: “Very handy light weight and quiet . Lots of storage no freezer to have to defrost it’s a plus for me no freezer means more food storage. Has a handy storage on the inside door for drinks so that freed up the regular section of the fridge for more food etc . As per info received in box only about $30 a year in electric use . I didn’t want or had room for a full size fridge so this works great for me . If you don’t need a full size refrigerator then this one is for you . Price is nice too .”

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “UPDATE: 4 months in and it’s still working great and I’m still very happy with it.I bought this because my 10 year old Igloo died suddenly (not TOO suddenly, I had already talked about buying a new one in the next month or so) and I needed something ASAP. It’s not exactly what I would have liked (I’m not a fan of the can holder thing. I’d rather have shelves. Also, the freezer is generally a waste of space but try to find one without on short notice) but it’s basically what I had before so I can work with it.It arrived today. I pulled it out of the box and like most large appliances, it sits on a base and the box slides over top then they wrap it in heavy plastic straps to hold it together. I immediately noticed that it had been dented on the top corner however, there was no damage to the box in that area. None. Not a wrinkle. It feels like it was damaged BEFORE being boxed and maybe that’s why so many arrive damaged – because it’s happening before it’s even shipped and Amazon can’t see it because it’s in a nice new box. You’ll notice if you look at the picture there’s a bit of rust on it. That didn’t happen between Thursday and Saturday.Sure, I could return it for a new one but that means dragging it through the house again, figuring out how to get it back in the box and then, figuring out how to get the box to stay together since I don’t have the ability to create new heavy duty plastic straps and tape is NOT going to cut it. I was not happy.I contacted Amazon and told them what had happened and they graciously offered me a choice between keeping it and being given a partial refund or returning it for a new one. Given my previous paragraph, you can guess what I chose. So now that I’d gotten that out of the way it was time to set it up and then plug it in. First then, because of the placement, I need it to open from the other side. While I was able to do it, they didn’t make it easy. The plastic part that covers where the door connects on the top was a giant PITA to remove. I basically had to pry at it with a flat head screw driver and slightly damage the plastic in doing so. They are not alone in this though. Every refrigerator I’ve had or seen pretty much has the same problem. I had hoped that since they specifically pointed out that it had a reversible door, maybe they had done something to make it easier. Nope. Then while trying to screw in the bottom bracket for the door, I found that the hole had been sealed by insulating foam. I just hit it a few times with a small screwdriver until it popped through. Once I got past that, the rest was pretty straightforward and the door now swings open from the other side. Now that I was ready to go, I moved it into place and leveled it off and then plugged it in. Nice and quiet. Very quiet. SO quiet I’m concerned it’s not working… but it seems to be doing alright. I opened the door and was surprised to see a light! I thought I must have missed that in the description when I bought it but going back I can’t find it anywhere. So, BONUS! Having the light is really nice and I’m glad it has it. Next, I pulled out the manual and drip tray then started to arrange the shelves . That’s when I noticed something odd. The drip tray didn’t slide in under the freezer like it should. It was too small. Turns out, that’s a feature not a bug. Apparently you’re just supposed to either set the tray on the top shelf permanently or take it out and only put it in when you need it. I’m not sure how I feel about that. Nothing in the description prepared me for it and it’s certainly not like that in the images. But that’s how it is now. You can see that mine doesn’t resemble the images shown. I really don’t mind the idea of the drip tray being separate, I just wish they had a place to PUT it. That would make sense, right? One nice thing about having the drip tray with a mini-fridge like this is that often times things on the top shelf will freeze slightly. I used the drip tray in my other fridge to hold a piece of styrofoam that partially insulated what was underneath and it helped quite a bit.The temperature dial on mine is way off. It goes from 0-6 but mine goes well past 6, to what might be 11. Does that mean that mine is colder than everyone else’s? Is it some kind of psychological thing to make me *feel* like it’s colder? Is it just broken? Is it just missing the numbers? I’ll probably never know. What I do know is that it’s plenty cold and it stays that way, all while making (what feels like) almost no noise. This feels like a solid purchase. I hope it stays that way!”
Customer Review: “I only have one complaint (which I have already registered with Amazon) about this product. I bought it because it had the RCA label on it, and it was the right size for the ready-made enclosure in my Mother-in-Law suite’s kitchenette. When the product arrived, it looked exactly like its catalog picture, BUT…it clearly did NOT have the RCA label on it. It’s an IGLOO fridge, which I had been avoiding, due to reviews I had consistently read about the IGLOO refrigerators.Amazon had already pulled this catalog item and evidently now has re-advertised it with the correct product information. I was promised a full refund, if the fridge did not perform well or had problems within the first 90 days of its use. That said, I love the fridge. I’ve been using it for six weeks, now, and have had no problems with it, whatsoever. I suspect that that will continue to be the case. If not, I do, at least, have my 90 days promise from Amazon. The fridge has a variable-cold control that works. At first I didn’t have that set past the middle setting, and it wouldn’t freeze ice. I bumped it up just under 3/4 of the control setting, and it will now freeze a single tray of ice, which is all I need. I suspect that turning it to the max setting would freeze two trays, but since the 3/4-setting also tends to freeze things like lettuce placed on the top refrigerator tray too close to the small freezer compartment, I haven’t done that. Just having a single tray of ice gives me iced drinks twice a day, and I’m fine with that. The door compartments are made solidly and well. The wire holders are heavy duty and affixed strongly (they don’t pull out or get pushed out easily). The canned drink tray works perfectly, and the other trays work well for condiments, butter, and smaller fridge items. The small vegie/meat drawer works great, as well. It will hold a packet of six small on-the-vine tomatoes plus some cheese or a packet of bratwurst, etc.The freezer holds a couple packs of bacon or sausages along with the ice tray. I also had a couple of small pork sirloin roasts in there one week. Everything was kept perfectly. The right top corner of the freezer door does tend to hang up a bit on frost, but a sharp rap to it every once in a while, while opening it, clears any frost that is in the way. It is NOT a frost-free unit, so I expected that (or more) to happen. It was no surprise, and in no way impedes my appreciation for the fridge. There is a small compressor noise when the fridge turns on. It doesn’t run all the time, and when it does turn on, if you are in the same room or possibly in the next room (depending on your acoustics) you’ll hear the click and then the compressor hum. To me, it’s nothing bothersome, and is similar to what other, similar, larger refrigerators sound like. If the fridge is in your bedroom, you may have to get used to the light noise, but I would assume that would happen in just a short time.Overall, I love this fridge. I will be glad when I get through the next couple of months, but am assuming the product will continue to work and do just as it’s expected to, since it has given me no hint that it might not.EDIT…I’ve just seen that these fridges are STILL being advertised as RCA brand–at least for some of the colors. Also, there are some non-branded pictures, and some IGLOO pictures. Please be aware, if you order this product, that you will get an IGLOO refrigerator.”

Comes with both a 120V power cord and a 12V adapter for car outlets. Please be aware though that this device uses the Peltier effect, and has a stated cooling limit of 28°F below ambient temperature (according to the manual). It is fine for storing drinks in, but unless you keep your house pretty cold, it is not going to keep perishable foods from spoiling. The fans are relatively quiet. The door latch works well and helps keep the inside cool.It does *not* have any temp adjustment. There is simply a binary switch with “off” and “cool”tl;dr – limited cooling capacity, not suitable for perishables”

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “Absolutely love sonic ice at home!! We have considered purchasing a nugget ice maker for quite some time during quarantine we decided to go ahead and do it and we have no regrets. This machine is quality made works wonderfully, my husband installed himself he removed A cabinets from our kitchen and install it near the sink. We used the pump that another reviewer recommended. Machine did have a ding in the side and on the front panel I called Amazon and they discounted the price due to the damage. As you can see from the photo the damage is not visible once placed inside the cabinet if you’re thinking of getting an icemaker like this I would definitely go with this one for the price it can’t be beat.”
Customer Review: “Just decided to write a quick review since I saw some low ratings for this product in other reviews. I bought this model in 2015 (10 years ago) and it has performed beautifully until about a month ago when the compressor started making noise and I knew it was finally time. In our house here in Texas we go through loads of ice everyday and for the past ten years this machine has been such a workhorse for us – as much ice as we needed everyday. I just ordered my second one and it is up and running for 3 weeks, again, flawlessly. As an engineer I took the old one apart and salvaged those parts I feel it is possible could go out with the new one sometime in the future. I liked the materials and methods they used to build this icemaker – no plastic parts where steel would have worked better, solid wiring harness and connections. I have been diligent on the 6-month maintenance to prevent calcium build up, I think that is important to the longevity. This is certainly a good option for those who use plenty of ice and appreciate paying more for quality.”

The water solenoid wires could be a bit longer, as they are at their limit to fit, but do. I have not connected to water yet, and will update this review if I find any problems. It does take up about a third of the freezer space, but I’ve is worth it.”

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “Am writing this review almost 6 yrs later. This mini fridge is like gold , I bought it for my room to have my cold beverages with me in my room for when am not sleepy . 6 yrs later it’s like I just bought the little fridge . There’s nothing I can say enough about this mini fridge, I have no complaint you don’t even hear it working . I never expect it to be as good as it is . Black& decker is the way to go 💯”
Customer Review: “So far, this Black and Decker mini fridge has been rock solid. I’ll share some thoughts on the unboxing, some gotchas, and hopefully a thing or two to help you make an informed decision on this fridge. For me it arrived well packaged: instructions were clear on removing the packing tape, which as others have mentioned is pretty much everywhere. The glass is adjustable and sturdy enough, but not super thick. The instructions state you’re supposed to set it on level 7 for fifteen to twenty minutes after you unbox, and there are some peculiar things to note reading the manual. One I found a typo in it because I was a proofreader in a past life. The bottoms are easily adjustable so the unit sits flush on the floor. I was surprised at how quiet it is. After filling it up with stuff, it seems to keep items cold enough. I set it back to level 4.If you tilt or put it on it’s side, you’re supposed to wait 24 hours before plugging it in. Similarly, if you want to reboot the fridge, that is best done over a few minute period, which is weird because as far as I know this thing doesn’t run FridgeOS.The design is somewhat weird internally with how stuff is connected: like it slightly differs from the manual in ways you don’t really notice unless you look at it head on. At the very top, It does not appear to be actually level. Likewise the back bottom left side of the unit has a little divot in the plastic. You probably won’t notice unless you look right at it but it’s a little odd. The freezer has a note in the manual that you should NOT freeze items more than 5 days or so, which surprised me. Maybe the freezer compartment doesn’t really get as cold as one would think.Overall I like this thing: it’s compact, looks nice (though isn’t actual steel on the outside) and stays cold (even to the outside). The front is magnetic, so feel free to attach whatever flair you desire to it. I was able to slide two full gallon jugs of milk after reconfiguring the shelves, so there’s a decent amount of space in there. So far so good.”

Customer Review: “The feature that tells you when you’re out of water does not work. This doesn’t bother us. Because it makes the best ice and makes it fast. One of the best purchases I’ve ever made on Amazon. We’ve been running it for months and use it everyday.***UPDATE******DEFECTIVE & HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE***Less than 6 months after purchase the machine stopped working. I took advantage of the 1-year guarantee. I could only contact the company via email. I had to fill out a very detailed form before they granted me a solution. Despite all the evidence I provided to prove the machine stopped working because it was defective (not from user error or damage) I was forced to mail them the machine so they could repair it or send me a replacement. The cost to mail it (the least expensive option at USPS) was over $60USD – almost the cost of the unit in the first place.Customer service was horrible. It took months to receive a replacement after spending the money on shipping. They kept sending messages saying they were dropping my ticket and my case. It wasn’t until I threatened to go to the police for holding my property with no intention of returning it to me that I suddenly found a new replacement ice maker at my front door – no notice that it was being sent or that my case had been resolved. The replacement seems to be working just fine. It’s been about 6 months since then so fingers crossed it survives longer than the last one!”
Customer Review: “Shipping was great. Package arrive with zero damage. Makes a “box” of ice very fast which also means you’ll have to refill fast as well. True to measurements and it’s sitting on our counter. Must clean regularly and especially if you’re not planning to use it. You’ll j ow as soon as you taste it if you don’t clean it.”

Complete Buying Guide for Best Refrigerator Without Ice Maker
Essential Factors We Consider
When you’re searching for the best refrigerator without ice maker, it’s about more than just a missing feature; it’s about finding the right fit for your lifestyle and kitchen. We look at several key factors. First, consider the capacity. How much fresh food and beverages do you need to store? This will dictate the cubic feet you should look for. Next is the size and dimensions. Measure your available space carefully, especially height, width, and depth. For instance, if you’re looking for a larger model, consider if a 33-inch wide refrigerator would fit your kitchen layout. Then, think about the type of refrigerator. Are you looking for a mini-fridge for a dorm, a dedicated freezerless unit, or a larger family-sized model that simply skips the built-in ice dispenser? Each type offers different benefits.
Energy efficiency is also crucial. Look for ENERGY STAR certified models to save on electricity bills. Since you’re foregoing an ice maker, you might already be saving a little more energy compared to a refrigerator with an ice maker. Consider the door configuration – reversible doors are great for flexible placement. Finally, don’t overlook internal organization, such as adjustable shelves, door bins, and crisper drawers, which can make a huge difference in usability.
Budget Planning
Setting a budget for your refrigerator without ice maker is a smart first step. These models often come at a lower price point than their ice-making counterparts, which is a great advantage. Mini-fridges can range from under $100 to a few hundred dollars, offering an affordable solution for supplementary cooling. Larger, full-sized refrigerators without ice makers will naturally cost more, typically in the range of $500 to $1,500 or more, depending on brand, capacity, and advanced features. Remember to factor in potential delivery and installation costs. While you save on the ice maker component, investing in a model with good energy efficiency can lead to significant long-term savings on your utility bills, making a slightly higher upfront cost worthwhile.
Final Thoughts
Choosing a refrigerator without ice maker is a conscious decision that offers several benefits, from increased storage space and fewer potential repair points to often better energy efficiency. By carefully considering your capacity needs, available space, desired features, and budget, you can find the perfect refrigerator that simplifies your kitchen and meets your specific requirements. Whether you opt for a compact mini-fridge or a spacious freezerless model, the options available today provide reliable cooling without compromising on quality or convenience.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why would someone choose a refrigerator without an ice maker?
A: Many people choose a refrigerator without ice maker to gain more usable storage space in their freezer, avoid potential issues like leaks or maintenance that come with built-in ice makers, or reduce energy consumption. Some prefer to use an external countertop ice maker or simply use ice trays, finding it more convenient or efficient for their lifestyle.
Q: Are refrigerators without ice makers more energy-efficient?
A: Generally, yes. Built-in ice makers and water dispensers require additional components that use electricity and often lead to small energy losses through the door. A refrigerator without ice maker typically has fewer moving parts and can be more energy-efficient, potentially leading to lower electricity bills.
Q: Can I add an ice maker to a refrigerator that didn’t come with one?
A: It depends on the refrigerator model. Some refrigerators are “ice maker ready” and have the necessary connections and space in the freezer to install an optional ice maker kit (like the Frigidaire IM117000 we reviewed). However, if a fridge is not designed for it, adding an ice maker can be complex and may not be recommended.
Q: Do refrigerators without ice makers still have a water dispenser?
A: Typically, a refrigerator without ice maker also means it won’t have a built-in water dispenser, as these features are often integrated. If you desire filtered water, you might consider a filtered pitcher or a separate water dispenser unit.
Q: Are freezerless refrigerators considered “refrigerators without ice makers”?
A: Yes, freezerless refrigerators inherently fall into the category of “refrigerators without ice makers” because they lack a freezer compartment where an ice maker would typically reside. These models are chosen when maximum fresh food storage is the priority and freezing capabilities (and thus ice making) are handled by a separate appliance.
Finding the perfect refrigerator without ice maker truly depends on your individual needs and how you envision your kitchen functioning. From sleek mini-fridges for personal use to larger, freezerless units maximizing fresh food storage, there’s a solution for everyone.
