Of course the elastic gussets on the side are not waterproof, but that is fine with me. They are deep enough and fit snugly around the sides of the mattress to prevent and slipping or movement of the pad. I washed it on a gentle cycle, and then dried it on an ultra-low setting in my dryer. The manufacturer’s recommendation is air dry, but it held up fine on the very low heat setting on my dryer. I will probably order an extra one of these pads to have on hand. Incidentally, it has really cute packaging, so it would make a great baby shower gift. I find it very worth the price, as the non-toxic, waterproof material and the bamboo top are hard to find in other covers, and are important features in my mind.
