It was well worth the splurge! On work nights, I can set the time delay function to have the water hot and ready at the perfect temperature for my morning tea when I wake up, with enough water left over to fill both my and my partner’s work thermoses as well. On the weekend, I can leave the keep-warm function on to instantly warm up or brew a new cup of tea throughout the day—with its 3 liter capacity, I rarely need to refill the device or reboil from scratch. The temperature settings may feel limited but are all you need for most varieties of tea or coffee. The wide opening makes for easy filling, emptying, and cleaning, and was also the perfect size for scooping out water with a hishaku for an informal tea ceremony experience. I highly recommend using the suggested cleaning tablets, as mineral scale will gradually build up over use, and the tablets (combined with the device’s self-cleaning function) work really well at eliminating this natural buildup and keeping the device in prime working order. The one thing I think Americans might need to get used to is the need to unplug it to turn it off (and to prevent it from boiling dry when low), but in this case that means easily detaching a magnetic safety plug rather than unplugging it from the wall outlet itself, so there’s little effort needed and minimal, if any, wear and tear to the device or your wall outlet. 6 months into repeated daily use and no issues yet—if this goes on for another year, I will end up saving since I don’t have to keep replacing worn-out kettles!

I did not measure the temperature but you certainly can scald yourself on the hottest heat. I did check the lowest heat setting, (there are 3), and the temp would be great for baby formula. It still had a plastic smell to the water after running 4 full water loads so I asked Rufus how to help. Rufus said to fill it with 1:1 ratio of vinegar or by using a scant amount of baking soda to the full load. I used the vinegar and that did the trick. I used to make my tea on the stove by using a big pot boiling the water and thentaking a small pot and dipping it in and pouring it into a pitcher how unsafe is that! Just remember to keep it filled with water. I do unplug it at night and it’s cool because if it has water when I plug it in, in the morning, it boils again automatically and I don’t have to wait the full 20 minutes another thing is that I didn’t like the fact that it slides around easily so I put rubber feet on the bottom and that helped very much. If you have trouble finding this, I used something called bump dots that’s not what they’re for but they work.As a person who is blind, I find this urn is very easy to use. I have to say I did hesitate to buy it because I thought it was a little expensive but when I looked for it a week ago it was on Amazon pay that made me buy it right away!!
