Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “We installed this whole house water softener alternative and have been pleased with how it helps protect plumbing and appliances from hard water scale. It filters out dirt, sand, silt, clay, rust, and other debris before the water gets into the house which gives me peace of mind knowing the pipes are getting cleaner water. Installation was pretty straightforward and did not feel overly complicated. Once in place it works quietly and does not require any salt or ongoing maintenance which is a big plus compared with traditional water softeners that need regular refills and care. Another thing I like is that it wastes no water. Some softeners send water down the drain during regeneration cycles but this system avoids that entirely. The unit feels solid in the way it’s built and sized for a whole house application, and the reusable sediment cartridge is a nice addition that should make filter changes less wasteful over time. While it may not soften water in the exact same way that a traditional salt based system does, it has noticeably reduced buildup on fixtures and has been a good fit for our home. The price felt fair for the coverage and protection it provides, especially if you want a low maintenance alternative without wasting water. This has become a useful part of our home water setup and seems like it will hold up well with regular use.”
Customer Review: “Italian filters are known for being some of the best in the business and these certainly prove the point. Starting with the build quality, the solid metal mounting bracket is beautifully finished and must weight 5 pounds. The housing is super-thick plastic with plenty of reinforcement throughout. The threads are deep and solid, and it was no issue getting the fittings to tighten up and not leak. The water quality is seriously better, as I have been using an RO system for the drinking water and the main tap water tasted bad. Now the entire house (3 full baths, kitchen, laundry and soda machine) all run off of this filter and I can drink the water from the taps. I have a pressure regulator set to 60psi on the house water main, and I was planning to adjust it up for more pressure, but there was no noticeable change in pressure with this installed. Since it is easy to install and should last the lifetime of the plumbing system, $1,000 seems a good value, since it does come with the first set of $145 filters.”

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “Compact system that filters everything bad out. I had a plumber install it. I had tested the water before installing and the water came out very low in chlorine and very high in bacteria. I used Detekt water testing kit I got through Amazon to test the water. I retested the water after installation and the water came out negative for bacteria within 72 hours. I used a sterile cup to collect the water sample. After 72 hours the readings are not longer indicative of contamination per phone call with Detekt. I also tested bottled water to compare and found that the bottled water treated with UV light and reverse osmosis was positive for bacteria but Kind UV system treated water was bacteria free within 72 hours of testing.”
Customer Review: “After installing this system, our tap water tastes better than bottled water. I bought this system because it has everything that I need and the maintenance seemed straight forward. I was looking for a system that had not only particle filters and carbon filters but also, our tap water is extremely hard. So, the softener was a must as well. The UV was extra but we decided to get it. It isn’t a critical piece though. I just want the option to be able to turn it on, in case, we need it. I know it’s supposed to be on all the time but we don’t need it like that. We aren’t treating well water. I did some shopping around before settling on this system by Kind. One of the systems I was looking at had the exact same setup (carbon filter, debris filter, water softener, and UV) and they wanted $15,000. I literally laughed when the rep, who was in my house doing a demo, told me the cost. In any case, I believe this is a great value and the UV is a must if you have well water. Installation: I’m a DIY homeowner and I took on the challenge of installing this water treatment system on my own. It took me a few days to put the pieces together and then to gather the confidence to cut the main water line to my house. But it all went much easier than I expected. I did fall into 4 traps, two of which aren’t explained very well in the installation instructions (see below). Trap 1: (UV) Do NOT touch the glass sleeve or the UV tube with your fingers. Trap 2: (UV) Before inserting the sleeve, place the rubber O-Ring around the open end and slide it down to the mark (about 1/2″). This will make sure the gasket is seated correctly and should not leak. Trap 3: The big blue filter canisters each have a rubber gasket that is too large for the groove that they are supposed to sit into. TIP: lube up the gaskets and place them into a plastic bag in the freezer for 24 hours or more. This will shrink the gaskets just enough so that you will be able to QUICKLY press them into the groove on the canister and twist the canister into position before they stretch back out. Trap 4: Use thread tape on the male threaded parts and thread sealer on the female threaded parts. Once it’s installed, you will thank yourself. 5 stars.”

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “I used this filter to fill a 4,500 gallon above ground pool using our well water sprinkler system. Although the water didn’t come out crystal clear, it sure was better than if we had filled the pool without an inline filter. It even got rid of the rotten smell. We had issues when we first filled up the pool and it had to be emptied and refilled. So, in total, we used this filter to filter 9,000 gallons of water. We could’ve rented a carbon filter, but the cheapest rental we found was $350. Now, although the filter is for one time use only, meaning after 600,000 gallons of water, you get rid of it and get a new one, it can be refilled. You can purchase the filtering media, whether is carbon, a sediment filtering media like Turbidex, Iron and Manganese removing media, etc. You’ll need to empty all the carbon media first, clean it, add a base of clean gravel and then your media. All in all, this filter worked great for us and I recommend it.”
Customer Review: “Easy to install and made a big difference in water quality”

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “Does an amazing job. I’ve developed really bad psoriasis and eczema over the last few years and the water hardness has gotten worse since we bought here. Lately it’s been very painful with cracked, dry, and painful areas of skin that look all splotchy, and irritated. We got this installed by a plumber and the system is simple to set up with a brine tank and the filter tank along with the electronic valve. The valve lets you adjust the hardness level, according to the water in your area, and it took a couple of days before I noticed a difference but it is astounding to me what a difference this has made. My skin is now soft, no more splotchy, irritated, or red areas, and is no longer painful. My wife loves what it’s done for her hair, making it softer and having to use less shampoo and conditioner. Oh, that’s another thing, since the install we’re using about a 1/4 of the amount of dishwasher detergent, soap, shampoo, dish soap, etc. because the water is so soft and any type of soap or detergent lathers so well the typical amounts are just overkill. Even if you don’t have a skin condition, do yourself a favor and get a home water softening system, it makes a huge difference for such a simple thing that can affect your quality of life.”
Customer Review: “This review is for the HG-45-FG water softener. Installation instructions are poorly written and incomplete. A couple steps specifically – make sure to remove the black plug from the inner media tube – this should be its own step separate from removing the screw in black media tank cover – easy to miss on their small drawing and will result in no water out of softener. After speaking with APEC they stated this is a common mistake – hello – fix the instructions!!! There are no instructions on brine filter initial fill and whether or not to add water to the brine tank initially. Turns out you can do either – leave it dry or add some water. It will auto fill. Why not state that in the instructions? The list of what’s not included is incomplete and should include 1/2 inch drain line. So far it has dropped my water hardness from 10 to 3. I was hoping for better – perhaps it will improve with time. I did set the hardness level to 171ppm and I have a sediment and carbon filter before the water softener and a filter after the softener as well to catch any media that might escape the tank. Would I buy again – not so sure. Waiting to see performance over time. Updating after a couple months with this softener. The regeneration cycle for this softener while short (about 35 mins) shuts off water to the house entirely. This should be disclosed as a “feature” to potential buyers. Many softeners provide un-softened water during regen – not this one. In addition it causes air in the plumbing which then causes “burps” the next day when running water for several minutes. I have contacted customer service to see if this is normal or if there is anything that can be done – no reply. I would not recommend purchasing this product.”
9. Morton Morton-40E Solar Salt Water Softening Crystals
For those utilizing a traditional salt-based water softener, the choice of salt is critical, especially for sensitive skin. Morton Morton-40E Solar Salt Water Softening Crystals are known for their purity and effectiveness. This 40-pound bag of crystals dissolves quickly, contributing to efficient water softening and reducing mineral buildup that can irritate sensitive skin. Pros and Cons
Pros:
- High purity helps reduce potential irritants for sensitive skin.
- Dissolves well, preventing buildup in the softener tank.
- Widely available and a trusted brand in water softening.
- Effective in producing consistently soft water.
Cons:
- Still a sodium-based solution, may not be suitable for all sensitivities.
- Requires regular refills and monitoring.
Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “This salt dissolves very quickly and has no additives. Morton no longer makes the white crystal salt (which was labeled as safe for freshwater pond/aquarium use) but I believe this product is pretty much the same thing. I use it in my pond for my brackish water fish to which I add trace minerals to make up for the other major ingredients (sulfate, potassium, magnesium, calcium) and trace minerals. Doing it for 8 years now. For saltwater (sea water) use the synthetic ocean salts found in pet shops. DO NOT USE THESE SALTS IN A SALT WATER AQUARIUM!”
Customer Review: “Wrong Product — Not Solar Salt — Morton Pure and Natural Is Not Pure and Natural Solar Salt”

Customer Reviews
Customer Review: “We have a mix of PEX and copper pipes in our house, all under 1 inch, and this descaler is compatible with everything. It treats the water right at the main inlet, protecting every faucet, showerhead, and appliance downstream. We used to spend a fortune on descaling chemicals, vinegar soaks, and early appliance replacements. Within the first year, the reduced cleaning hassle, lower energy bills (our kettle boils faster!), and extended appliance life have already made this device cost-effective. The reliable descaling action is evident—our shower screens stay clearer longer. A truly reliable and economical whole-house solution.”
Customer Review: “I’m not a plumber, so the “easy installation” claim was critical. It was even simpler than advertised! I just wrapped the pulse strips around my main ¾-inch copper pipe (the wide, flat copper wires made contact secure and easy), plugged in the unit, and that was it—no tools, no cutting pipes, no calling a professional. The stable performance has been consistent. No flickering lights, no weird noises. It just sits there working silently to protect my entire home’s plumbing. Incredibly user-friendly and effective.”
Complete Buying Guide for Best Water Softener Salt For Sensitive Skin
Essential Factors We Consider
When searching for the best water softener salt for sensitive skin (or a suitable alternative), several factors come into play. First and foremost is the method of softening. Traditional salt-based softeners exchange hard minerals for sodium ions. For truly sensitive skin, minimizing sodium exposure can be beneficial. In this case, choosing a high-purity water softener salt, like sodium chloride pellets or crystals with minimal additives, is crucial. These purer salts dissolve more completely and leave less residue. However, many people with sensitive skin opt for salt-free water softener systems or descalers. These systems work by altering the hardness minerals so they don’t form scale, but they don’t add sodium to the water. This is often the preferred route for those trying to avoid any potential irritation from sodium or for those on a low-sodium diet. We also consider factors like the system’s capacity, installation complexity, and whether it treats city or well water. For example, if you have well water, you might prioritize a system that also filters other contaminants. The goal is always to find a solution that provides gentle, clean water that nourishes, rather than irritates, delicate skin.
Budget Planning
Budget planning for a water softening solution for sensitive skin involves considering both the initial investment and ongoing costs. Salt-free water softener systems often have a higher upfront cost compared to traditional salt-based softeners. However, they eliminate the recurring expense of buying water softener salt. They also typically have lower maintenance, saving you money on parts and labor over time. For traditional salt softeners, the price of the unit itself might be lower, but you’ll need to factor in the regular purchase of salt. When considering the best salt for softener, purer options often cost a bit more per bag but can lead to better performance and less tank cleaning. Additionally, consider installation costs; some systems are DIY-friendly, while others require professional plumbing. Remember, investing in a good water softener can lead to savings in other areas, such as reduced soap and detergent usage, longer appliance lifespan, and potentially fewer medical expenses related to skin conditions.
Final Thoughts
Ultimately, the “best” solution for your sensitive skin depends on your specific needs, water quality, and budget. Whether you opt for a high-purity water softener salt for your existing system or invest in a cutting-edge salt-free alternative, the benefits of soft water for delicate skin are undeniable. We’ve highlighted products ranging from comprehensive whole-house systems to specific salts, ensuring there’s an option for everyone. Prioritizing gentle water is a proactive step toward healthier, happier skin, reducing dryness, itching, and irritation. Make an informed decision, and embrace the comfort that soft water can bring to your daily life.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the difference between traditional water softener salt and salt-free alternatives for sensitive skin?
A: Traditional water softener salt (usually sodium chloride) works by exchanging hardness minerals (calcium and magnesium) with sodium ions, making the water “soft.” For sensitive skin, the concern can sometimes be the increased sodium in the water. Salt-free alternatives, also known as descalers or conditioners, do not remove minerals or add sodium. Instead, they alter the structure of hardness minerals so they can’t form scale, providing similar benefits for plumbing and appliances, and are generally considered excellent for sensitive skin because they don’t introduce sodium.
Q: Can hard water really affect sensitive skin?
A: Yes, absolutely. Hard water contains high levels of dissolved minerals like calcium and magnesium. These minerals can react with soap to form a film that leaves residue on your skin, clogging pores and preventing natural oils from working effectively. This can lead to dryness, irritation, itchiness, and can exacerbate conditions like eczema or psoriasis, making soft water crucial for sensitive skin.
Q: How often do I need to refill salt in a traditional water softener?
A: The frequency of refilling salt depends on several factors: your water hardness, your household’s water usage, and the size and efficiency of your water softener. On average, most households need to add salt to their brine tank every 4 to 8 weeks. It’s best to check your softener’s manual and monitor the salt level regularly to ensure continuous soft water.
Q: Is a salt-free water softener effective for extremely hard water?
A: Salt-free water softeners are very effective at preventing scale buildup, which is the primary issue caused by hard water. However, they don’t remove the hardness minerals, so the water will still technically have a high mineral content, even if it doesn’t form scale. For extremely hard water, while a salt-free system will prevent scale, a traditional salt-based softener might provide a more noticeable “soft water feel” that some prefer, especially for sensitive skin, provided a high-purity salt is used.
Q: Will a water softener help with my eczema or psoriasis?
A: Many individuals with eczema, psoriasis, or generally sensitive skin find significant relief with softened water. By reducing the minerals that irritate skin and interfere with moisturizers, soft water can help soothe symptoms, reduce dryness, and allow topical treatments to be more effective. While a water softener isn’t a cure, it can be a vital part of managing these skin conditions.
