I keep my home about 73 / 74, and have the heater set to 79. It maybe heats up to 79.3 and goes as low as 78.6. I love that it has a probe thermometer attached, which will sound if it’s out of water. You can also set the alarm to go off it the temp reaches a certain high or low temp. I have 2 of these heaters. One is in a 20G Long, and the other is in a 13.3G long / shallow. I previously had a 75W heater (different brand), and it seemed to work a little more overtime, which is why I went ahead and decided to try this 100W.The power cord from the temp box to the power input is a bit short, but the cord from the temp box to the actual heater is a decent length.Something to also note, this is a fairly big heater, and may be unsightly to some. I paired it with a PROZRTED hot water recirculation system. this PROZRTED system is to keep hot water in my master bath, that is to far from the water heater, and we waist to much water waiting for hot water. By far the most important — at least for me — is whether the ground water temperature in your area is consistently warm enough to give the water heater a chance to succeed. I live in North Central Florida where the groundwater temperature is a rock-solid 72F (~22C) year-round. This is the ideal setup for tankless electrics; if you are far north this heater will likely fall short at the exact worst time, i.e. when it’s winter and you could really use a nice, hot shower. I recommend looking closely at the map provided on Rheem’s website and product pages to determine if this product is right for you.Second caveat, if you have a natural gas hookup, it is worth researching whether a gas-powered unit would be more efficient and/or less costly. There are considerations beyond this, of course, but those are the key ones that will determine whether you will be a happy camper or have cold water poured on those dreams of long, hot showers.If you’re still considering after reading the above, then the short of it is (drumroll) … I’m very satisfied and fully recommend making the jump to tankless!Here’s the long-winded version:There is about 25- to 30-feet of pipe to travel between the water heater and the showerhead in my bathroom, and it takes about 25 seconds (well, 22.93 … yes, I used a stopwatch) for the shower water to reach max temp. I did not use a stopwatch on my tank heater, but I’d guestimate it takes about 10 seconds longer for the tankless to deliver hot water than the tank unit it replaced. The main benefit, again, is that the tankless will continue to deliver hot water indefinitely while the tank is finite — so, no more playing beat the clock and if you get in the water and realize you forgot your razor or something.The temperature coming out of the showerhead lines up with the temperature on the digital display for the main shower. There is a slight, but noticeable (I’d say 2F-4F/1C-2C) drop from the maximum temperature for the shower furthest away from the water heater. There is enough overhead that you can crank it a few degrees higher — just be sure your shower handle can settle on something that won’t scald you if you go above the recommended!I can also verify that the throughput on the model I bought (24 kW) is enough to handle two showers running at the same as well as start a load of laundry on hot — I’m sure it could handle more, but there’s not a scenario I can imagine where I would need it to. I have never seen that on any product on Amazon or in a commercial store. Ever. I figured the maker had to be confident of the kit to do that.My water heater is ~57 gallons with an annual energy rating cost of $454/year.The circle top fit perfectly. The kit had more insulation for around the tank that I needed. Which I appreciated in case I royally screwed up. Ha!But, it was simple and no screw ups were involved in the installation.I installed the insulation around the tank first so I could adjust its height to the floor.I took some time before deciding to cut a long section near the bottom to accommodate the white pipe that’s on an upward angle into the wall. I took “close enough” measurements of the height of the pipe at the lowest part and the highest part and used a yard stick to cut a straight line between those points. I couldn’t easily reach those areas for an exact measurement but the product is forgiving and I didn’t need to cut out a section with width. I just used the single cut to slide around the pipe.Once I got the insulation in place around the tank, I used a bit of the painters tape that the kit was wrapped in to temporarily hold it in place while I cut holes to accommodate the access points mentioned in the instructions. I wanted to be able to adjust the fit if needed. Which I did make some minor adjustments and the painters tape was perfect for that.I had more than enough of the foil tape in the kit. I have a decent amount leftover and I wasn’t shy about using it liberally.I did a long strip up the tank to connect the surrounding insulation. I used it to seal the long cut I made to accommodate the pipe (where the pipe wasn’t coming out.).I cut 2 inch vertical slits around the top of the surrounding insulation to make the taping to the top easier without wrinkles in it. I cut the foil tape to fit the area in between those slits as well.I cut the top circle part in half, used painters tape to hold the sides temporarily in place while I cut holes to accommodate the pipes on top.Then, I started folding down the foil tape I’d placed on the surrounding insulation part to the circular top piece. This really helped me keep good spacing between the insulation and the heater.I cut a 4 inch strip of the extra piece of insulation I had and used it to fill a gap between the top piece and the surrounding part.No fault of the kit, it was my lack of accuracy. But, the good news is, it worked just fine!The tape is forgiving, I was able to peel it up and replace it in the correct position if I’d gotten it off a straight line. Just don’t press it down super hard until you have it exactly where you want it.Since installing the kit we’ve found we get longer showers which is nice if we’re both up at the same time in the morning and take back to back showers. The last person isn’t rushing to make sure they don’t run out of hot water.The utility closet isn’t noticeably warmer than the rest of the house anymore.It’s a surprisingly simple product and easy kit to install with instant results.It’s not going to make an old, poorly maintained water heater work likes it new. Not really, but why not give it a shot. Water heater has years of life left, so why not?It came packed well, but was not easy to manipulate to move and install. I did get the larger one to put around my tank to make sure it was fully covered, which it did.The big problem with the product is the tape, it is terrible. I started to use it, tape didn’t stick, tossed it to the side. I had another name brand tape already, so I used that. You will need your own tape to make this work.Overall, glad I put this on, hopefully it does work well and reduces power consumption.”

Then stay hot enough to get through a shower late at night and run almost entirely out of hot water after the shower.To meet these goals required 54 total minutes of ON time with no insulation on the water heater at all. I only have a 30 gallon tank so I nearly wrapped the outside twice, plus the top once. The timer now requires 38 minutes of ON time to hit the same objectives.That’s a 16 minute savings for a 3800 watt heater per day. I pay 24 cents per kw, so it saved 16/60H X 3.800Kw X 365 X $0. 24/KwH = $88.76 saved per year. 16/54=29% savedThe downside was hours of installation, as my heater is in a confined cabinet, and it also takes time to cut openings for the electrical panels and then retape them. Because of the confined space, all in it took about 5 hours.However, my water heater is inside my living space, I live in a hot climate year round, and all of the lost heat has to be cooled. The kitchen in which my water heater is located is about one degree colder when the air conditioning is held constant. The reduction in cooling savings is probably an additional $90 per year. So $180 per year for a 30 gallon tank is pretty significant.Note that most of these commenters installed it incorrectly. This isn’t a “blanket”, it requires an air gap between the water heater and this wrap. The product comes with slits that allow you to fold it back twice in one direction and two sets of double sided tape on either two edges (for the bottom piece you HAVE to install first) or one edge that becomes the TOP of the upper piece that you must install over the bottom piece. Before you install it, remove just the OUTER paper backing of one entire edge. Now fold the outer part back and then fold it back again, tucking it underneath itself. The net result is the second paper backing is now on the edge, and the edge is raised to provide the proper air gap. Do this with the other outer edge if there is paper backing. Now it is ready to install by removing what used to be the inner paper backing and apply the edges snugly to the water heater, leaving an air gap between the material between the raised outer edges and the water heater. The air gap provides about 90% of the insulating capability of the product. Ignoring this will mean losing 90% of the savings. Next install the other pieces the same way with the smaller top piece only having one raised outer edge to allow you to install that raised outer edge on top, with the bottom being installed over the raised outer edge of the piece you installed previously below it.Next tape everything, and not with the included tape. The included tape is worthless, you’ll need to buy your own aluminum tape. Taping everything after I taped the top down actually generated about 1/5 of the savings I outlined above, as I did not initially tape everything as it seemed snug. Then later I taped everything and was able to reduce the timer settings further.”
