Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “Love this tankless heater, it works great! Never run out of hot water while showering! There’s only 2 of us in our home so not sure how it would work with a family but I’m sure a bigger size or maybe another mounted where hot water is needed most??Would definitely buy again!!”

Customer Review: “There are many factors to consider before buying an electric tankless heater. By far the most important — at least for me — is whether the ground water temperature in your area is consistently warm enough to give the water heater a chance to succeed. I live in North Central Florida where the groundwater temperature is a rock-solid 72F (~22C) year-round. This is the ideal setup for tankless electrics; if you are far north this heater will likely fall short at the exact worst time, i.e. when it’s winter and you could really use a nice, hot shower.”

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “This product is AMAZING. The only thing you have to do is buy a 120V breaker, turn off the main breaker to the house, slap that 120v breaker into your breaker box (Yes, you can get slimline single-slot versions of these at the local hardware store (Lowes) for a few bucks to save space if your breaker box is crowded.), run 3 insulated copper wires about 1/8th of an inch thick from the Heater to your breaker positive, negative, and ground bar, unhook the Cold In and Hot Out hoses from your old water tank (With the water to your tank turned off of course – don’t get doused!), and attach those to the hot and cold sides of your new heater. Turn the power and water back on, and select a temperature setting. Paid for itself in the first 2 months of use. Water comes out scalding hot, and I had to turn it down! This is in a 3 story house. Can take several seconds to push all the cold water out of the pipe and warm up, and a conventional tank is a few seconds quicker, but that’s the ONLY downside. Another great upside is since it heats continuously on demand, you NEVER run out of hot water when showering or other heavy multi-person use. It’s also way smaller than I thought, slim, sleek, and space-saving. Best $270 I ever spent. Told the gas company to go pleasure themselves with a barbed wire roll, and had my annoying, overly-priced monopoly-holding gas service (Dominion Hope) disconnected. One less bill to pay and utility to deal with – the electricity bill increase was barely noticeable next to the ridiculous monthly gas charges I was suffering. GET A TANKLESS HEATER IF YOU ARE A HOMEOWNER OR LANDLORD PROVIDING UTILITIES! The technology is here, works, saves space and time and money, you will not regret it. This model I personally vouch for after months of use.”

Customer Review: “I’ve been using tankless units since 2017 (EcoSmart, made by Rheem). Compared to my previous experiences, this is a whole other level as far as temperature consistency, especially at higher flow rates. Before, I started out with a 55kW unit, which would maybe handle 0.5gpm with summer incoming water temps above 70°f. Come winter when the incoming water can drop down to 38°f, forget it. So, I kept the 55kW, and fed it into an 8kW unit of the same brand. That setup worked pretty well with those winter temps, at a flow of up to 1gpm, and I could turn the 55kW off for summer use, using only the 8kW unit. Then, the 55kW quit totally, and not long after, the 8kW started working when it wanted to. I would clean thing out with full strength cleaning vinegar and it would behave for a few days, maybe another month, then it was back to “surprise, its ice cold shower time again!”.This 14kW unit has solved those issues brilliantly! I have it set to 101°f for showering so there’s no energy waste adding cold water to the mix (no point to that like with tank style heaters). At 100/101°f, this unit stays in ECO mode (but not below oddly) and will deliver up to 2.5gpm up to 120° with incoming water at 58°f. So, no more “heyyy, whoaaaa BRRR” issues if my wife hits the kitchen sink while I’m in the shower, this thing delivers!A note on power consumption: specs state a max draw of 58 amps, but this has shown to pull about 61.8 amps when I really pushing it during install tests per my TRMS clamp meter. The 60 amp double pole breaker didn’t trip, but I only held it at max flow and set to 131°f for a few seconds. Be sure and use 6AWG wire for the input, minding the run length as well (no more that 16 to 20 feet!!!). Consult wiring specs for amp draw and length of run if not having a professional do the install. Overall, its hyper simple to do yourself with minimal plumbing and electrical skills, but do follow code (its there for very important reasons folks). This states to NOT use a T&P relief valve, and TO install gate valves on the inlet AND outlet… none of which is typically recommended or allowed depending on local codes. I did install a T&P on the inlet, but didn’t use gate valves at the inlet or outlet (already have one on the main inlet within 5 feet to start with). So far, this one is killing it after 2 weeks. Hopefully, you’ll see the same results. Despite the temp ratings for central Texas not requiring a unit of this magnitude, it IS necessary with the lower incoming temps that come with even a mild winter where I live.”

Customer Review: “Purchased this to replace a finicky water heater in my garage. It is only connected to a sink and works fine. I like the digital temperature display and how easy it is to change the temperature. The one I replaced was twice as much money and would not work if the cold water was turned on, only worked with the hot water on and would get too hot. Not a problem with this heater, I’m impressed with how well it works for the price I paid.”

This unit has a superier build quality to others that I have seen and takes advantage of superier Technology; a briliant design that should make it one of the lesser users of electricity, compaired to most others available! Very EASY installation!!! So glad to get rid of that TANK of constainly heated water that makes absolutely no sinse, using lots of electricity ALL THE TIME, for something that you only use 2% of the time; HOT WATER!!!”

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “This water heater works great. It is so much better than having a traditional water heater. It takes up so much less space and showers can last forever if you want them to.It heats up quickly and provides steady hot water for as long as you need.We are in Ohio and this runs a shower in the winter. Flow does have to be limited but its still a very enjoyable enjoyable shower.Setup was mostly easy, but you will probably need adapters to replace your current water heater.Overall this is a great value and I can recommend it.”

Customer Review: “We purchased this water heater based on comments here and like others, we agree that it is a great water heater. We are using it as a whole-house water heater replacing a sixty gallon tank that started leaking. We expected that there would be some adjustment in going tank-less and using an 11KW as a whole-house water heater, for example like not using other faucets while showering, etc., but we were willing to make that sacrifice because we were going to be saving money on the heater, and on electricity with the bonus of doing the right thing for the environment.Well, this heater exceeded expectations by a LOT. We keep it set at 110 degrees which makes for very hot shower but not scalding and no problems using other sinks at the same time. My wife told me she took a shower while the dishwasher was running and expected it to be “cool” but to her surprise there was no problem handling the dishwasher and shower at the same time. It has been about a month since we installed the water heater in our 4 bedroom, 3.5 bath house and we have forgotten that we are heating water on demand because there is no noticeable difference compared to when we had a sixty gallon tank. One of our showers is a double shower and I tried that out, no problem the heater handled both fine with no reduction in temperature. You should be aware our house is a Florida house so our city water comes in at around 68 degrees. If you had well water you will have different results as you will be heating much colder water. One other thing to note, if you take a bath you will want to crank the heater to higher temp, it is so easy with the knob and digital readout I taught my daughter to crank it before her bath so she can add extra hot water to “freshen” up her long and hot bath otherwise 110 degrees isn’t hot enough to heat up a cooled bath do to rapid heat loss. You can buy the remote control for about forty bucks and adjust the heater setting from anywhere, or just keep your heater set to a higher temp. We like running it at 110 so that we have maximum energy savings and eliminate scalding risks.I highly recommend this heater, keep in mind that you need upgraded wiring, you will probably have 220 volt electric for your existing water heater but ours was only 30 amp and this one calls for 60 amp so that means getting MUCH thicker wire that is expensive and hard to pull. If your heater can be located close to the breaker box you will save money in wire and the hassle of pulling super thick wire. I bought wiring and breaker for 50amp by mistake and didn’t notice until after the installation was finished. We must have never drawn more than 50 amps because the breaker has NEVER kicked even running two showers so I plan on keeping the 50 amp breaker as the wire we used is safe for only up to 50 amps and I’d need to replace the wire to even thicker.”

Complete Buying Guide for Best Point Of Use Tankless Water Heater

Choosing the perfect point-of-use tankless water heater can seem daunting with all the options available. But don’t worry, we’re here to break down the essential factors so you can make an informed decision. Think of this as your personal guide to understanding what truly matters for instant hot water where you need it most.

Essential Factors We Consider

When looking for the ideal unit, several key specifications will guide your choice:

  • Power (kW) and Voltage (V): This is crucial. Smaller units (3kW-6kW) often operate on 110V/120V and are great for a single, low-flow sink. Larger units (6.5kW-14kW+) typically require 220V/240V and can handle more demanding tasks or multiple fixtures. Always check your electrical panel to ensure you have the necessary voltage and amperage available.
  • Flow Rate (GPM): Gallons Per Minute (GPM) indicates how much hot water the unit can deliver. For a hand-washing sink, 0.5 GPM might suffice. For a kitchen sink, you’ll likely want 1-2 GPM. More powerful units offer higher GPM.
  • Temperature Rise: This is perhaps the most important factor. It’s the difference between your incoming cold water temperature and your desired hot water temperature. A unit’s GPM output drastically decreases as the required temperature rise increases. For example, a unit that provides 1.5 GPM with 30°F temperature rise might only offer 0.5 GPM with a 70°F rise. If you have very cold well water, consider a unit with higher kW for better performance, or also look into a water softener for tankless water heaters to prevent mineral buildup and maintain efficiency.
  • Size and Installation: Point-of-use tankless water heaters are celebrated for their compactness. Measure your available space, especially under sinks. Also, consider the plumbing connections – most units use standard fittings, but some installations may require adapters.
  • Energy Efficiency: Look for features like self-modulating technology, which adjusts power consumption based on demand, leading to greater energy savings.
  • Safety Features: Over-temperature protection, dry-heat protection, and water-electricity separation are important features to ensure safe operation. ETL or UL certifications are good indicators of quality and safety.

Budget Planning

Beyond the initial purchase price of the heater, there are a few other costs to consider:

  • Installation Costs: Unless you’re proficient in electrical and plumbing work, you’ll likely need a professional. Electrical upgrades (new breakers, thicker wiring) can be significant, especially for 240V units.
  • Running Costs: While tankless heaters are energy-efficient due to no standby heat loss, the actual cost will depend on your electricity rates and how much hot water you use. Generally, smaller point-of-use tankless water heaters will be more economical to run for their specific tasks than heating a whole house with a larger unit.
  • Maintenance: Most electric tankless heaters require minimal maintenance, but annual flushing might be recommended, especially in hard water areas, to prevent scale buildup.

Final Thoughts

The right point-of-use tankless water heater will seamlessly integrate into your life, providing instant comfort and efficiency. By carefully considering your specific hot water needs, electrical capabilities, and climate, you can choose a unit that not only performs flawlessly but also contributes to energy savings. Don’t underestimate the impact of a dedicated hot water source on your daily convenience and overall home efficiency.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is a point-of-use tankless water heater?

A: A point-of-use tankless water heater is a compact unit designed to heat water on demand directly at or near the fixture where it will be used, such as a sink or shower. Unlike traditional tank heaters that store and continuously heat water, these units only activate when hot water is called for, eliminating waiting times and standby energy loss.

Q: How do I choose the right size (kW/GPM) for my needs?

A: To choose the right size, consider three main factors: your incoming cold water temperature, your desired hot water temperature, and the required flow rate (GPM) for the fixture(s) it will serve. For a hand-washing sink, a 3kW-6kW unit might be sufficient. For a kitchen sink or a dedicated shower (especially with warmer incoming water), you’ll need a 6.5kW-14kW unit. Always check the manufacturer’s temperature rise chart for your specific region.

Q: Can I install a point-of-use tankless water heater myself?

A: While the plumbing aspects can be straightforward for a DIY enthusiast, the electrical installation often requires professional expertise. Most units, especially 240V models, need dedicated circuits and specific wire gauges. Incorrect electrical wiring can be dangerous and void warranties. It’s always safest to consult or hire a licensed electrician for the electrical hookup.

Q: Are point-of-use tankless heaters energy efficient?

A: Yes, they are highly energy-efficient. Because they only heat water on demand, there’s no energy wasted keeping a large tank of water hot 24/7. This can lead to significant savings on your utility bills compared to traditional tank-style water heaters. Many models also feature self-modulating technology to further optimize energy use.

Q: What are the electrical requirements for these units?

A: Electrical requirements vary significantly by model. Smaller 110V/120V units typically require a dedicated 15-amp to 30-amp circuit. Larger, more powerful 220V/240V units can require 30-amp, 40-amp, or even 60-amp circuits, and sometimes multiple breakers. Always check the product specifications sheet carefully and ensure your home’s electrical panel can support the new load.

Choosing the best point-of-use tankless water heater can bring a world of convenience to your home. No more waiting for hot water, no more bulky tanks, and more money staying in your pocket thanks to reduced energy consumption. By considering your specific needs for flow, temperature, and electrical capacity, you’re well-equipped to find the perfect match from our top recommendations.
