Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “What ever you set the temp to that’s what you get. We have no complaints. We bought 2 since we have 5 bedroom 3 and 1/2 baths one with dual head showers. We never run out of hot water. Just remember there is a 45 min timer if you run more than that you need to turn of hot water and back on again and you get another 45 minutes. Safety feature. Also has recirculation feature in which you can always have hot water without waiting. Just need to add a return line. Very easy to install. When you see how small they are compared to standard hot water heater you won’t believe it. Best replacement.”

Customer Review: “We added a two person hot tub to the master bathroom and the 40 gallon tank water heater could not handle filling the tub. We removed the 40 gallon gas water heater and installed the tankless gas heater. It was a breeze. My son and I remodeled the utility closet a while back to put in a water softener. We temporarily hooked up the pex lines to test the new water heater. It looks a little rough but it is for testing. Could not beat the price. I’ll let you know if it does the job (filling the hot tub). 🙂”

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “Because of various code issues, and my distrust of my own abilities, I did not install this inside my house. However, it was an easy install on my outdoor kitchen. I just had to find a place where it would fit and be out of the elements. I hooked up my spare propane and the kitchen island already had power, and that’s pretty much the hardest parts of the install. The water took a little while to heat up but I think that’s because it’s really cold outside right now. But once the water flowed a bit, subsequent flow heated up quicker. I think the water remaining in the exchanger is warmer than the water pulled from the supply so heated up faster.I didn’t have the flow to the max. I rarely have the need for it in the outside kitchen anyway. But using it like I usually do, just enough so my hands don’t freeze, it was literally an endless stream of hot water. So temper your expectations and use it accordingly, and I don’t think you’ll have any issue with it.I have a smaller one that is portable and is intended for RV and camping, but this one should definitely be used fixed in place. The exhaust is really hot, and should be routed so that you don’t smell it all the time. Be very, very careful about that because you may worry less with it outside, the fire is a constant danger. But use common sense, and you’ll be fine.”

Customer Review: “I am planning a remodel project and this will be a big portion of it. The current water heater can be overwhelmed by a combination of the elements and the volume of usage. When it is really cold and the shower is being used, we get good heat, until someone uses the sink. This unit looks to have the heating power to handle our whole house and to do so while more than two taps are open, even I n a real cold snap. I can not wait! But, between now and then I am only aware of the claims and the opinions of the manufacturer and some of those who bought it. I will however come back and do a more though review after we install and use this water heater for a little while. So far I am pleased with all I have read and the 3/4″ fittings are exactly what I was hoping for. I felt that this was a good value long before receiving it as I had been shopping for an instant-on propane heater for a while.”

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “Worked perfectly! Easy to install. Made hot water as soon as it was put in!”

Customer Review: “This unit is a beast. We have used tankless water heaters for years and I highly recommend them. It is easy to get over sold when reviewing the sizing guide. How many times are you using hot water at more than a coupe of showers? They have you add in the kitchen, washing machine and all the sinks. The smaller (cheaper) unit cranks out hot water just as hot as the biggest unit.We have 5 tankless units at 3 houses and the cheapest one I bought almost 30 years ago (they still sell it today and it is still the cheapest) is still cranking and I have done zero maintenance on it. Never flushed it, never touched it. No water softener in use. Just keeps on cranking hot water.”

Complete Buying Guide for Best Gas On Demand Water Heater

Essential Factors We Consider

When you’re shopping for the best gas on demand water heater, there are a few key things to keep in mind to ensure you get the right fit for your home. First, consider the GPM (Gallons Per Minute). This tells you how much hot water the unit can deliver at one time. A typical shower uses about 2.5 GPM, so if you plan on running multiple showers or appliances simultaneously, you’ll need a higher GPM rating. Next, look at the BTU (British Thermal Units), which indicates the unit’s heating power. Higher BTU means faster heating and better performance, especially in colder climates where incoming water temperatures are lower.

Another crucial factor is the fuel type: are you looking for a propane on demand water heater or a natural gas model? Ensure your home has the correct gas line size and adequate ventilation for indoor units. For optimal longevity and efficiency, especially in areas with hard water, consider adding a water softener for tankless water heater. This can prevent mineral buildup that might reduce performance over time. Also, think about smart features like Wi-Fi connectivity or advanced temperature modulation that can enhance convenience and energy savings.

Budget Planning

Investing in a gas on demand water heater involves both the initial purchase price and installation costs. While tankless units can be more expensive upfront than traditional tank heaters, their energy efficiency often leads to significant savings on utility bills over time. Installation costs can vary widely depending on whether you’re replacing an existing tankless unit or installing one for the first time, which might require new gas lines, venting, and possibly electrical upgrades. Always get quotes from certified professionals.

Final Thoughts

Choosing the best gas on demand water heater is a decision that impacts your daily comfort and long-term energy expenses. By focusing on factors like GPM, BTU, fuel type, and smart features, you can select a unit that perfectly matches your household’s needs. Remember that a properly sized and installed tankless water heater will provide endless hot water, save space, and contribute to a more energy-efficient home.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the main benefit of a gas on demand water heater?

A: The main benefit is that it provides an endless supply of hot water only when you need it, eliminating the standby energy losses associated with traditional tank heaters. This leads to significant energy savings and a continuous flow of hot water.

Q: How do I know what GPM (Gallons Per Minute) rating I need?

A: To determine the right GPM, consider how many hot water fixtures you might use simultaneously. For example, a shower typically uses 2.5 GPM, and a kitchen sink around 1.5 GPM. Add up the GPM of your most-used fixtures during peak times to find your ideal total. Most average homes need a heater with a GPM between 3.5 and 6.0.

Q: Can I install a gas on demand water heater myself?

A: While some handy homeowners might attempt it, installing a gas on demand water heater involves working with gas lines, water lines, and venting, which can be complex and dangerous if not done correctly. It’s generally recommended to hire a certified professional plumber to ensure proper and safe installation, often required for warranty validity and local codes.

Q: Are gas tankless water heaters really more energy-efficient?

A: Yes, gas tankless water heaters are typically more energy-efficient than traditional tank models. They only heat water when there’s a demand, rather than continuously heating and reheating a large tank of water. This can result in energy savings of 20-30%, depending on your household’s hot water usage patterns and the specific model’s efficiency rating.

Q: What’s the difference between natural gas and propane tankless water heaters?

A: The primary difference is the fuel source they use. Natural gas models connect to your home’s existing natural gas line, while propane models require connection to a propane tank. BTU ratings and combustion processes are optimized for their specific fuel, so it’s critical to buy the correct type for your home. You cannot typically convert a natural gas unit to propane or vice-versa.
