Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “What ever you set the temp to that’s what you get. We have no complaints. We bought 2 since we have 5 bedroom 3 and 1/2 baths one with dual head showers. We never run out of hot water. Just remember there is a 45 min timer if you run more than that you need to turn of hot water and back on again and you get another 45 minutes. Safety feature. Also has recirculation feature in which you can always have hot water without waiting. Just need to add a return line. Very easy to install. When you see how small they are compared to standard hot water heater you won’t believe it. Best replacement.”

Customer Review: “We added a two person hot tub to the master bathroom and the 40 gallon tank water heater could not handle filling the tub. We removed the 40 gallon gas water heater and installed the tankless gas heater. It was a breeze. My son and I remodeled the utility closet a while back to put in a water softener. We temporarily hooked up the pex lines to test the new water heater. It looks a little rough but it is for testing. Could not beat the price. I’ll let you know if it does the job (filling the hot tub). 🙂”

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “This is my fifth unit and my first using with propane gas. I have installed and used four other units with natural gas in my work place and thought of installing one for my house. I works very well, better than expected. I did notice I had to install a check valve on the inlet water line to avoid sudden starts when a faucet is closed quickly causing water hammer. The factory water temperature is perfect at 120 degrees. I did try higher but it was too hot. No change if flow rate from the electric water heater, but a huge change in the electric bill. This unit will pay for it self in a very short time. This unit is mounted outdoors with the controller mounted inside. The installation was very easy and has worked very well from the start. Much shorter delay in the hot water to the faucets and shower.”

Customer Review: “Took about half a day to install it. We went out and bought a tall 23 gal. Propane tank. Got it filled for about $100. Now we will see how fast we go through the propane. We started with the temp at 120 degrees. Wasn’t quite hot enough. We turned it up to 130 degrees and we are getting plenty of hot water! Doesn’t take long for the water to get warm. But it’s only a short distance from the Master bathroom. The 2nd bathroom takes a little longer. It’s the guest bathroom, so not too concerned. The unit itself isn’t too big. It’s mounted to the house on the outside above where the old tank was. Actually looks very clean and nice. Hoping this continues to work perfectly for a very long time. :)”

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “Great unit that works well above my needs (1 bath trailer house) I was sceptical for the price but have been very happy with it after 2 weeks of use, showers stay hot and consistent, handles all washing machine needs, runs 20 minutes continuously with a 1 minute recovery in between. On the longer sections of pipe the recovery is almost un noticable during use. Installation was simple and straight forward, and allowed me to condense my water heater cabinet for more floor space in the house. Would definitely recommend for trailer house/ small family home applications”

Customer Review: “Im updating my review 2nd timeThe Drain valve at the water inlet does not have a hose supplied. So, a small bucket needs to be placed below for draining. There is a more critical issue: this unit does not have any safety certificate or marking. The vendor said they have a Chinese certificate. That’s not acceptable in the USA. Any item that plugs into the wall power outlet needs to have a UL, csa, ce, marks etc. And a safety certificate available. The fire Marshall and Insurance companies will not accept an UnCertified product installed in the home.Amazon should check into this before allowing a listing.First thing to know is The user Manual is quite incomplete. The vendor has missed our several details.Do they know that this is SUPER CRITICAL item and should have complete documentation with proper installation DRAWINGS. Explaining IN CHINESE ENGLISH is not going to work.Easy to install. Works great. The gas line supplied with the heater is not a Flare, which won’t connect to a normal gas outlet. Get an adapter Flare to FIP.One thing to know: the minimum flow rate to activate the burner is a kinda limitation: if you turn on the Hot faucet in sink, it likely won’t trigger the burner and you won’t get hot water ever. This item as a Central water heater won’t work well. But as a local heater close to the shower it will do great.I gave a gas powered laundry close to the Master bath. This will fit will there. It can trigger by shower or laundry instantly. And Gas, water lines and 110V outlet are available there. For Central water, the Tank system is still better. It does take a long time to get hot water in every faucet EVEN after installing a recirculation pump. There’s no perfect solution.”

Customer Review: “This thing is awesome, had to install it myself even though I just had a knee replacement. Just had to drill two holes for my water lines. Once plumbing was connected I plugged it in and it started working. It is very quiet and the only thing I had to do to weatherproof it was to put heat tape on my exposed pex and wrapped them with foam insulation.”

Customer Review: “I’ve never heard of this brand until now, but I do one no one thing. Quality is top notch versus quantity over this. Functionality, its main use is zero second technology which means it will be breamimg hot with hot water as soon as you turn on the faucet. It’s not exactly ease of use or easy to use but once you get it turned on and connected it’s pretty much self-automated. I will say the value for the money that’s worth, it’s worth it. Trust me, it’s affordable.”

Customer Reviews

Customer Review: “Usually don’t write reviews but this is an acception.Me and my wife have been living in a barndominioum since we’ve been building our house. About 8 years. We’ve had 2 other water heaters installed since then and so we have some experience with them. We’ve generally used the camp type water heater that go outside but I’ve figured out a way to install and vent it safely inside, they are cheaper and did do the job, however, both of them had large temperature swings in them that made for an exciting time in the shower to say the least. It would be from goose bump cold, to lobster skin red in just a few minutes but we learned how to deal with it.So, I looked at this water heater which is close to double the price, but the display pictures show it INSIDE the house and vent outside. So, the dice and purchased the more expensive model. The first time I took a shower in it, I realized that we had something a step above those other water heaters. The temperature maintained a much more consistent temperature (I could feel some slight variation) and so I could set it at a temp that was comfortable throughout my shower. We can also adjust it to whoever is in the shower at the time. My wife likes 120 and I like 125, so simple to do too. We both experienced that best shower that we’ve had at this place in 8 years. Longevity, we’ll sees, if it will get us to the finish of our house, I’ll be satisfied. If you can afford it, it is worth the price.”

Customer Review: “My parents decided to switch to a tankless water heater. We have a medium-sized household, and the high output easily keeps up with showers, laundry, and the kitchen running at the same time. The water heats up fast and stays consistent. There are no more sudden cold bursts like we used to get with our old tank system. The smart digital display is one of my favorite parts. It’s super easy to read and lets you adjust the temperature with precision, which makes a big difference when you want comfort but also don’t want to waste energy. It’s compact and sleek too. The space gray finish looks really modern and doesn’t take up much room. Installation was straightforward, and once it was hooked up, it worked perfectly right out of the gate. What really surprised me is how quiet and efficient it is. You barely notice it’s running, and it feels like a big step up in both performance and style. If you’re tired of running out of hot water or just want to make your home more energy efficient, this one is totally worth the upgrade.”

Quiet, efficient and easy to setup. To have good water pressure, use an expansion tank with a pressure regulator, this way it keeps the line with adequate and constant pressure and does not damage the machine.well built and compact compared to conventional boilers.Hot water quickly even from distant taps. I noticed a strong smell of gas in the exhaust, which is fair to say it has 93% efficiency.Place the exhaust away from areas where you usually relax.”

Customer Review: “The media could not be loaded. Definitely want to install the Rheem reculation pump when installing this unit.Installation is somewhat complicated, not something I would do as a 1 day project. I have as a amateur about 15 hours total time from unboxing to flushing system..but well worth the time.Once installed with a reculation pump it works awesome, hot water as much as you want as long as you use.”

Complete Buying Guide for Best 30 Gallon Gas Water Heater

Choosing the best 30 gallon gas water heater, or a tankless alternative that provides equivalent service, involves more than just picking the first one you see. Since traditional 30-gallon tanks are less common in gas models today due to the efficiency and space-saving benefits of tankless units, we’ve focused on helping you understand how to select a gas-powered system that meets those needs. Here’s what we look at when considering these powerful hot water solutions.

Essential Factors We Consider

When selecting a gas water heater, whether it’s a traditional tank or a modern tankless unit, several key factors come into play. For tankless models, which we’ve largely featured, the most crucial specification is Gallons Per Minute (GPM). This tells you how much hot water the unit can deliver simultaneously. A good rule of thumb for a household typically served by a 30-gallon tank (e.g., 1-2 bathrooms) is a GPM of 4-6. For larger families or homes with multiple showers running, you’ll want to aim for 7+ GPM. Another critical factor is the BTU (British Thermal Units) rating, which indicates the unit’s heating power. Higher BTUs mean faster and more consistent heating, especially in colder climates where incoming water temperatures are lower.

The type of gas—natural gas or propane—is another non-negotiable consideration. You must choose a unit compatible with your home’s existing fuel supply. Installation location also matters; some models are designed for indoor use and require specific venting, while others are built for outdoor installation, freeing up valuable indoor space. Finally, look at energy efficiency ratings. Tankless models are generally more energy-efficient than tank heaters because they only heat water on demand, eliminating standby heat loss. Some models even feature smart controls or Wi-Fi connectivity for added convenience.

Budget Planning

Budgeting for a new gas water heater, especially a tankless one, involves more than just the purchase price. While tankless units often have a higher upfront cost than traditional tank models, their long-term savings on energy bills can be substantial. Installation costs can also vary widely depending on whether you need new gas lines, venting, or a dedicated electrical circuit. Getting quotes from certified professionals is essential. Factor in potential maintenance needs, such as annual flushing for tankless heaters, which helps prevent mineral buildup and extends the unit’s lifespan. Also, consider any local rebates or tax credits for installing high-efficiency models.

Final Thoughts

Ultimately, choosing the best 30 gallon gas water heater equivalent means finding a unit that perfectly matches your household’s hot water demands, energy preferences, and budget. For many, a high-efficiency tankless gas water heater offers superior performance, endless hot water, and long-term savings compared to older tank systems. Think about your family’s daily hot water use, available space, and desired features to make the most informed decision.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do tankless gas water heaters really provide endless hot water?

A: Yes, they do! Unlike traditional tank heaters that store a finite amount of hot water, tankless gas water heaters heat water on demand as it flows through the unit. This means you won’t run out of hot water, no matter how many showers are taken or how long they last, as long as the unit’s GPM (Gallons Per Minute) capacity meets your household’s simultaneous hot water needs.

Q: Are tankless gas water heaters more energy efficient than traditional tanks?

A: Generally, yes. Tankless gas water heaters are significantly more energy-efficient. Traditional tank heaters continuously heat and reheat water in their storage tank, leading to “standby heat loss.” Tankless units only activate when hot water is needed, reducing energy consumption and saving you money on utility bills over time. This makes them a great choice for an energy-efficient water heater.

Q: What GPM (Gallons Per Minute) do I need for my home?

A: The ideal GPM depends on your household’s hot water usage. For a small home with 1-2 bathrooms that might typically use a 30 gallon gas water heater, a 4-6 GPM tankless water heater is often sufficient. If you have 2-3 bathrooms and frequently run multiple showers or appliances like a washing machine simultaneously, you’ll want a unit with 7-9 GPM. Consider your peak hot water demand to choose appropriately.

Q: Can I install a tankless gas water heater myself?

A: While some handy homeowners might attempt DIY installation, it’s generally recommended to have a professional plumber and gas technician install a gas water heater. This is especially true for tankless units, which require precise gas line sizing, proper ventilation, and often a dedicated electrical circuit. Incorrect installation can pose safety risks and void warranties.

Q: How do I maintain a tankless gas water heater?

A: Regular maintenance for a tankless gas water heater typically involves flushing the unit once a year to remove mineral buildup, especially in areas with hard water. This process helps maintain efficiency and extends the lifespan of the unit. Some models also require routine air filter cleaning. Consult your owner’s manual for specific maintenance instructions for your model, and consider adding a water softener if you have very hard water.

Choosing the right gas water heater is a big decision for any home.
