Tidy Kidz Review & Giveaway (Ended)

Do you have issues trying to get your kids to clean up their room, helping you withhousehold chores and/or keeping things clean and tidy? I know I sure do! With three kids and a husband that acts like one most of the time I need all the help I can get when it comes to chores and keeping things orderly. Before I had kids I was a NEAT.FREAK! But since I had my second child I’ve relaxed a bit mostly because I don’t have all the time to spend cleaning, cooking, blogging and everything else that moms do, but it still drives me a little crazy. When I was introduced to Tidy Kidz I was really excited to go in and take a peek and I have to say it’s a really great idea! I wish I had thought about it first. But I guess to do that I would have to have a child like Bella, who loves to clean and keep things as tidy as possible.

Tidy Kidz is a site where you can go watch videos with your children to give them ideas on how they can help around the house and keep things tidy. My two older children love watching the videos and so far we’ve got some really good ideas out of it. Since we started watching these videos and browsing through their great ideas my kids have stepped a little. We now have a chore chart, chore jar and some easy ways for kids to do chores. But the videos aren’t all they have on their site. They also have tidy success charts and certificates. These are great ideas to get kids motivated. There are also ideas for grown ups, recipes, a blog and more!  I have found that my kids respond well to little Bella because ‘it’s cool’ when a child sees another cool child doing something and it makes them want to do it. Here is a small video of how my daughter has started helping out more!

And here are some pictures of how my kids are getting motivated to helping out around the house. Once they fill up their jar they get to pick something special to do. Whether it’s a movie night on the pull out couch that they get to sleep on all night, a trip to the movies, a special dinner…whatever they want that I can do, they get. It definitely helps keeping them busy and gives them a sense of pride and accomplishment for a job well done. Kids need to realize at a young age that their messes don’t magically disappear..someone (me) has to clean them up. They need to learn how to be independent when it comes to their environment, there isn’t always going to be someone around or willing to clean up their messes (realistic or metaphorically speaking) throughout their lives. Learning these things now will help them in the future.

Our chore chart with points (gumballs) for each chore!

My daughter’s chore chart check list!  My son has one too but he’s only 4 and doesn’t do it well. For each ‘regular’ chore they get 1 point (gumball).

This is only one weeks worth of points/gumballs! They’ll have it filled up in no time!

Something I learned, or rather, was reminded of is that guilt inhibits positive growth. If we feel guilty for asking our children to pick up their own clothes, we will inhibit their potential to grow in their “clean-up-ability.”
