Small Talk Six

MomDot’s Small Talk Six question for the weekend is, 6 things (good or bad) that you credit your mother-in-law for.”

So here goes nothin…

  1. Thanks for babying your son so much that he can’t do anything (home wise) for himself! He thinks I’m his mom most of the time. (i.e. picking up his cloths off the floor 2 feet away from the hamper, etc.)
  2. He is a hard worker though, so thank you for bringing him up with a hard working attitude.
  3. Thank you for teaching him that important holidays and occasions are special. (i.e. anniversaries, birthdays,  etc.)
  4. Thank  you for teaching him how to cook because DAMN….he is an outstanding cook!
  5. I wish you would have instilled more family values in him though. Things like taking the time to play with the kids, important talks, working together as a team and doing our best to shield them from things they are too little for. Him thinking it’s ok to let the kids play violent video games and watch movies that are not intended for kids really irritates the hell out of me. But I guess for that I should really be thanking his asshole father for his lack of involvement and abuse.
  6. Thank you for bringing him up with religion. One thing that I love is that he remembers to be thankful for what he has (even when he doesn’t always act like it). He is also really good about saying his prayers before all meals and before bed. These are good things for our children to grow up seeing.

So there you have it. This post was really hard for me to do considering that my mother-in-law is deceased. There are so many things that I wish I could talk to her about and ask her. She did her best to raise my husband but times were tough and her husband was tougher. He (my dh) is a good man but I know there are many things we need to work on together so that he can break the cycle and be a better father and husband. However, he is far from the worst and for that I am thankful.

My (ex)hubster forgets his own birthday. Violent video games? oh great now I’m not alone. MILs teaching their sons to be hard-working – yours and mine have the same brains in that area.

I don’t think we moms realize how much we influence our sons as fathers and husbands. And by the time we do know, it’s usually too late. I’m sorry your mother-in-law is no longer with you all.

Thanks for sharing even though it was hard. My own Mother is guilty of number 1. I’m sure my sister in law isn’t happy about that. My brother was spoiled.

My husband has had to grow into 3 and 6. Its nice that yours did it naturally. As we stay married longer these things are getting better.
