It’s winter still, right? So that means that it’s cold outside and usually a little chilly inside, correct? Ok well then will someone please explain to me why a certain little boy (*cough* my son *cough*) won’t wear clothes?! Every day we go through the same fight.
Me: “Will you please for the love of God go put some clothes on? It’s chilly in here!”
Him: “No.”
Me: “Aren’t you cold? It’s 2 o’clock in the afternoon and you’ve been walking around with only underwear on all day. Go.put.some.clothes.on…NOW!”
Him: (grumble grumble…whispers under his breath. He gets that from his dad by the way.) “Fine!”
He walks back out with a t-shirt and pair of pants on.
Me: “Thank you sweet boy. Don’t you feel better now? You look so handsome when you’re all dressed.”
Him: (grumble grumble)
An hour goes by and it starts all over again.
Me: “Grrrr…..sweet child of mine, where are you clothes? You just had them on!”
Him: “Why do I have to wear clothes? I don’t like them. I don’t wanna put them back on….I’m hot.”
(Yeah right he’s hot! It’s like 67 degrees in the house because mamma was sweating from cleaning the house this morning so I turned down the thermostat.)
This child will make excuse after excuse as to why he doesn’t want to get dressed and will even sometimes refuse to leave the house because he doesn’t want to put clothes on. Now, I understand that he has eczema, sensory issues so his skin is sensitive but still! C’mon…will he be like this when he’s older? Should I start looking into nudest camps to send him to? He has a very large selection of very nice clothes since it is one of my obsessions; I don’t like shopping for me so I get stuff for the kids. I guess I should consider myself fortunate that he even wears underwear. Please tell me that your kids do this too and my son is not the only one. I’m beginning to wonder whether I should just pick my battles and let him win this one or not.

Being the mom of 4 boys I can honestly say you are not alone! Usually they all just strip their shirts though they are rarely just in their underwear
although lately my oldest wont take his coat or snowboots off allllllll day unless I say ,hey you going somewhere?
LOL
Lol I am laughing so hard.. remembering when my children were all little… I always had a house full of of mostly naked kids… had one that would only wear underwear.. but.. he always had to have something on his feet.. lol and never a pair of anything.. every photo I have of him before he is 5…he is naked with a boot and shoe.. or a slipper and sandle oh and by the way.. he did not care if they were his or not. We stayed home a lot.. having had four kids in five years they were a handful to take out.. and trying to keep everyone dressed while in public was a challenge too
Now my baby is 16… and my oldest is 21…by the way they do grow out of that.. now my oldest can be seen dressed in his snow suit in a sleeping bag sitting at the table in the evening doing his home work… house is already 70 but his excuse is that it is winter and it is cold out. I would vote you pick your battles and that clothes should not be one of them
Think of it this way.. all the more skin to tickle or kiss
So true! And he is wicked ticklish!
LOL No you are not alone….as we speak my “sick” boy is running around with just boxers on. He never wears a shirt because “Boys don’t wear shirts, we have to show off our muscles” Yeah whatever kid!
LMAO Britt! My son is always doing that too….and dh! Must be a guy thing.
Nope. Your son isn’t the only one. My girls walk around all day without clothes. They hate wearing anything. If I force them to get dressed, I hear them complain constantly. Then next time I look they’re half undressed. Usually they’ll keep their shirts on, but the pants are tossed on the floor. In fact, I just took a video of them and forced them to put clothes on for it. If you watch it, you can hear my daughter ask me why I made them put clothes on. LOL http://bit.ly/4PTiFC
Ro will NOT wear clothes unless she has to. No joke. She makes excuses that they are itchy, she’s hot, the blanket will keep her warm…the only things I can keep on her for any length of tome are a Onsie or a dress she likes.
Oh and shoes. She will wear those. And faerie wings and a tutu. But mostly it’s just chonies. LOL
You are not alone. Ro will be 5 in March. I have no idea when this will end.
I’d offer my son a tutu but sadly I think he would actually wear one. lol
My problem is that my son won’t use a blanket in the winter. No blanket, no sheet, nada.
Yeah my son won’t keep his covers on at night either. He has to be FREEZING before he’ll put them over him.
Our issue is underwear. My oldest hates it. I have to at least make him wear it in the summer so no one gets a show since someone could see up his shorts if he’s not sitting nicely, and what boy ever sits right?
LMAO Amanda!
I’m lucky Little Man wears his. lol
Yeppers!! Completely normal. Bizarre, but normal. The moment my 5yo hits the house he strips down. It’s butt freaking cold at night yet he insists on wearing only underwear to sleep. I don’t know how he stands it. I’m cold just looking at him.
LOL!! mine used to wear at least as possible…
the older one got cold easier so at least he wore his PJs…
now that is the one with my 2 grandsons… and the youngest is Nature boy! once he gets undressed, say in the a.m. before school, ect ( he will be 2 May 30) he gets up & runs… the Game is ON!!
he has eczema too, and seems to be hot too… so possibly a connection… other than i do not think they have the thermostats that us older folks do!
Have fun!!!
If my daughter could, she would. Our biggest thing right now is that she strips in her crib and then says “mommy, I peed.” I have NEVER washed so many loads of sheets in my life. The worst had to have been – “mommy, I pooped”. My husband walked in and it was everywhere.
My thoughts are duck tape wrapped around the child to keep the clothes on. What will do as she gets older – I will never know!
My boys strip all the time. I am thrilled I read these stories, because my mom makes me feel like I am doing something wrong. But the boys are beyond smart and potty trained young. I think letting them be nekkid is a small compromise. LOL. And like someone said – more skin to tickle and kiss. Eventually they wont want their mama to see their bum. LOL. I appreciate these days of innocence and silliness.
LOL yes you are VERY lucky he wears underwear lol. Owen could be naked all the time if I let him. He strips nude just to use the bathroom …. seriously he can’t even have socks on to go to the bathroom. It was pure hell going out in public with him having to pee for awhile but at least he only does this at home.
Owen doesn’t have any skin problems but he just hates being clothed. Also if I tell him to get pants on he comes out in shorts …. we’re in 20ish degree weather in a basement with no insulation it’s too dang cold for shorts lol. So I know what you’re feeling with the battles lol.
Sounds like it may be that “no” thing that springs up from time to tome. You might try some crafty reverse psychology. At his age, it might work.
