Halloween Party and Project Ideas

Last night we had our annual Halloween party for the kids. They always have a blast and this year was great since I had some new things for them to do. First we had to get pictures of our kids all dressed up together. My friend and I have been best friends since we were 3 and have done everything together. It was always our dream to raise our kids to be best friends as well, and guess what? They are! All together we have six kids which always makes going out fun! So here’s a pic of all our kids plus my daughter’s friend from school.

And I have to show you my daughter’s costume. I made it and I’m so proud of the way it turned out! I’ll post directions on how I made it later this week because these wings I made can also work for Christmas angel wings for school plays and recitals. So here is a picture of my little Queen Bee!

Cute huh? The wings only cost me about $11 to make and only took about 45 minutes. The entire costume cost me about $30! That’s it! Resale shop for the onesie for $2, I made the tutu for about $10, wand for $2, the antennas for $1 and the fluffy boa stuff cost me about $3.

Ok so onto the party and projects. After the kids played for a while, watched the Adam’s Family and then did some other stuff…but that’s for another post! After everyone started getting antsy waiting for the pizza to arrive we started our first project.

Witch Hat Cookies

What you’ll need:

  • Package of round chocolate cookies
  • Bag of Hershey’s Kisses
  • Orange or green bagged icing so you can make decorations.

Method:

Sooo easy but here ya go. Place the cookie upside down so that chocolate is facing up, plop a big amount of icing in the center, place unwrapped Hershey’s Kiss in the middle on the icing to hold it in place and decorate the hat! Simple, fast, cheap, not very messy and fun!

Then after that we started making our next project.

Ghost Suckers

What you’ll need:

  • Bag of suckers
  • Box of Kleenex
  • Black yarn
  • Black marker

Method:

Again, simple but for those of you that have not done this before, here ya go. Place Kleenex on table, put sucker in the middle, wrap it up, place black yarn around the ‘neck’ of the ghost and draw on some eyes and mouth. This is something that the kids can do mostly on their own and have so much fun doing it! Again, cheap, easy and fun!

caramel apples

And lastly we made some yummy caramel apples! Obviously I took the easy way on this one but c’mon…there are 3 of them and one of me. Plus everyone had to get ready for naps and Halloween later on; I don’t have time today to get overly creative, busy and messy. We bought some caramel ‘wraps’ at Wal-Mart for about $4 and some apples. The package comes with 5 caramel wraps and sticks. The kids washed their apples, placed them on a plate, wrapped the caramel wrap around the apple, pushed the stick in and we heated them in the oven for 5 minutes at 200 degrees. After that was done we ‘painted’ on some water and sprinkled them with Halloween sprinkles. They will have these tonight after dinner.

So there you have it! We had a fun party and there you have three Halloween party project ideas to do with your kids either tonight or next year. Hope everyone has a wonderful and safe Halloween! :)
