And so it begins. My little baby is now going to start “big girl bed training” this coming week. I have tried to keep her in her crib as long as possible because I know she’s safe in there and to be honest…I’m just not ready for her to grow up that much. She’s my youngest and the thought of never using her crib again kinda freaks me out a little and makes me sad.
Over the past couple of weeks when I wasn’t feeling well because of the cyst on my ovary, I was told that I shouldn’t be lifting anything (anyone) heavy. So my mom thought it would be a great idea to teach Little Miss how to climb into her bed so I wouldn’t have to lift her up. I had no choice, lifting her hurt and I knew it wasn’t good for me. But I knew it was going to lead to bad things. And it did! This morning when I went into her room to get her up she was standing on top of one of her baby dolls and trying to climb out. She had her foot over the railing and was ready to climb out of there like a little spider monkey. So we have now reorganized her room a little and added a toddler bed. I’m really hoping for the best but expecting the worst. She doesn’t do well with change and I’m afraid that this will be more of a headache than it’s worth. Although, if it keeps her from falling out of bed or climbing out, wandering through the house and getting lost hurt or into something then I guess it needs to be done. Someone tell me that it’s going to be easy!!!! Lie to me please! I don’t want my little baby to get big!
Her big brother and sister transferred from crib to bed really really well. My oldest HATED the crib from day one and my son was very excited to move to the new bunk beds that we got for them right before Little Miss was born. This scares me a little that we’ll have LOTS of restless nights!
Here’s her beautiful crib…that I LOVE!!! I should have taken a pic before we moved things around. The way it was set up before was so pretty. Pretty soon (after she gets the hang of the toddler bed) the crib will be packed up and moved to the storage room!
(sniff sniff)
Here are some photos of her testing it out!
Notice she’s not laying down in any of the pics….she won’t have that yet! lol We’ll get there soon…hopefully! lol So there she is in her big girl bed! Bed head hair and all!
When did you transfer your child out of the crib and into a big kid bed? Was it easy?

Both of our boys were about 18 months when they hit the big boy beds. Both of them started to hate the crib. We bought bunk beds with our first knowing that either if we had another or if he had friends over when he was older the bunks would come in handy. The top bunk has rails that slide out and go all the way down the sides. Both boys wouldn’t get out of bed on their own for the longest time. My 2.5yo still won’t. They act like it’s a crib in that regard, but like sleeping in it better. I guess it’s the lower sides.
