The Dr. Hippo books were written by Pediatrician Dr. Charlotte Cowan. These books are so very colorful and cheery! Enough to make your sick little one forget about how he’s feeling for a little bit. They explain in kid friendly detail what’s going on with their body and how pretty soon they’ll be feeling like themselves again. My kids love these books even when they’re not sick! lol These are great books for healthy kids who feel sick!

Plus in the back of each book is a Parent’s Guide to explain in adult friendly detail what’s going on with your child, how to help him or her feel better and when to call the doctor.

Check out the Hippocratic Press site and see all the amazing books they offer. And they even have a Dr. Hippo blog where you can get your questions answered by Dr. Cowan herself!

  32. Badger Momma says:

I learned that Dr. Cowan’s stories are written for children (and their parents to read TO them) and thereby underscores the national literacy campaign. In the creation of such warm associations with reading is the beginning of literacy: a child who is read to by a concerned parent—and who is reassured by that reading—will develop into someone who loves to read!

  33. Badger Momma says:

My favorite would have to be Peeper Has a Fever. My kids are always experiencing mystery fevers that appear and then go away after a day.
